Welcome to the Natural Hazards Mitigation Research Group

From Karen and John Huff School Chair and Professor Reginald DesRoches: Every year, natural hazards in the US cost an estimated $1 billion per week in the form of lives lost and public and private properties destroyed. Worldwide, natural disasters are occurring more frequently, and having an ever more dramatic impact on the world in terms of both their human and economic costs. Dr. DesRoches and his research group are working on ways to reduce the impact of natural disasters on the built environment, with a focus on earthquakes.
